Tired of being bombarded by SEO vendors?
Posted November 18, 2013 | By Kenneth King, Creative Director | Filed under: SEO
First off, if the vendor or firm you’re speaking with guarantees a #1 spot in Google or offers instant results, they're probably not a vendor you want to be associated with and could end up hurting your business in the long run.
I think we can all agree that, although it would be awesome to have the number one spot in Google, it’s not something that can happen overnight. Generally, SEO firms can’t provide guarantees due to the ever changing nature of the industry. Those vendors that offer “instant results” often involve SEO practices that are against webmaster guidelines put out by search engines. And once your website is flagged by the search engines it may take months for your website to recover.
I was recently talking with a small business owner, who had been working with a SEO vendor for a while now and at some point was getting a good ROI. His website appeared on the first page of Google and his phone was ringing. Then, unfortunately, a few months back everything changed. Google made some changes to its algorithm. And just like that, his phone stopped ringing and his website no longer appeared on the first page of Google.
I could see the frustration in his eyes as he was telling me his story; the realization that he's going to have to continue to invest in order to reestablish his web presence and website authority. What really struck me was that he didn't question what the vendor could do to fix the problem. Instead, he wholeheartedly placed the blame on Google.
The key thing to realize about SEO is that it is an on going process. It’s not magic. It’s an ongoing series of continual website optimization, data analysis, design and user experience enhancements; that if done correctly, should pay for itself and produce the ROI that you’re looking for.
